The Wright brothers had no academic background in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics and neither went to University. Yet they were able to solve the problem of flight that had been the holy grail of human ingenuity and invention.

There childhood was an unstructured education in which their parents encouraged intellectual curiosity across a wide breadth of subjects and flight they pursued for fun. This allowed them to explore areas that those of a more traditional system of learning would have thought frivolous or unrelated to the problem at hand.

They saw the issue of human flight as equal parts science and art, a complicated dance between man and machine.

It was this curiosity that ultimately allowed them to take flight as they were not seeking to be right but to find a solution and were not chained to a particular path of thought.
